Riots break-out at UNZA over increase in bursary forms

Riots have broken-out at the University of Zambia over government decisions to increase bursaries forms from Kr10 to Kr50 with immediate.

Reports reaching the Watchdog are that the students have been taken unaware and  have since started rioting along Great East road.

Police have since closed the Great East road to protect motorists from the rioting students who are chanting “we want change”.

A huge bon-fire has been lit in the middle of Great East Road by the protest UNZA students.

Last semester, government never paid the students their money for projects allowances despite the typical PF style of having promised them before they closed.

  4. you fool how do you expect us to dialog when the government knows it is its responsibility to take care of our fees and allowances. This is not an emergency case like the by-elections but an on going process that takes place every semester. How do you get money for students to use it for by-elections and you expect us to dialog. Are you a father of any child who’s having difficulties in paying for his school fees? danm you fooll!!! do you know how expensive life is here?
You who was talking about paying back loans you are a big fool dont you think its the same as paying for ourselves the whole four five six years we are here? one of the MDGs is free education. what can you tell us you rascal do you know what voice we use in UNZA? VIVA is our biggest voice because they are just like you they can not listen that’s why you voted for wrong people.
Its not the administration that increased the amount of the bursary forms but the bursaries committee just to pay them selves ba CBU bali sumina to pay k50 from a ten kwacha what an increment how i wish that was how the government would create more job for the jobless form 10 to fifty job opportunities.
If you passed with a lickage its not everyone, why do we have competent people from the university of zambia? you’ve already answered it rightly you blind man open your eyes mwana.

  5. We know that the majority of you guys are indeed dunder heads. We have seen a few of you performing to standard, but the rest have had problems even progressing to second year due to non comprehension of the theories you are bombereded with by your professors. No need to be mad about it, it is a true story. Leakages have been the main cause for all this in your G12 exams. Easy does it SIR.

  6. Even though the idea of selling forms is to avoid resources wastage because some people end up throwing them away when given free of charge, sometimes we go too far!! Just a small fee is enough, eg K1.

The present Zambian way of doing things is fun. Some or all Zambian missions abroad now charge even for certifying copies of certificates which the police in the same countries do free of charge. Can you image this madness!!

  9. Why sell Forms? All over the world these are given free of charge or are they? The fees paid when admitted factor in processing costs. You UNZA admin guys, what is wrong with you? I mean you are supposed to be smarter than this.

  13. 1. Bursaries should be provided on merit. Make people write essays etc/ work for it. Same thing with scholarships
    2. Students at UNZA should pay their own tuition.
    3. Companies need to get more involved in this. They dont pay enough tax, and they evade taxes. Call it social cooperate responsibility.
    4. Introduce Student Loans. The student needs to pay back when they start working.

  14. When idiocy and stupidity, dullness as well creeps in, certain characters like “some”very dull so called students do not get to a point were they would perceive issues positively. It’s like some students do not have the term DIALOGUE in their vocabulary..Yes it can be a salaula Japanese car but your papa can’t even manage to buy owing to fact that he’s wasting on a fool like you.Nasumina ukuya kusukulu takupwisha bututu.iyo mulimbutuma, amafolo, amafutu ayakulu.Do not be deceived that when you graduate you most probably have it all bufi mwilaibepwa.Ati studentiii society is different from school.why waste your time rioting and not concentrate on school books..efyo bamingishisha nencito kuli ba grade 7.Differentiate knowledge and wisdom mwana.Over simple issues you lose track, what a way of expressing dullness. If i were you i would find a better way of sorting out issues like this.Sorry only blunted on reality…fools.

  16. Bursary application forms should be free of charge. The application could even be done online with no paper work involved unless the bursaries office wants to print hard copies. Should the Zambian government wish to have free consultancy services from me, I am more than ready to provide such services on condition that they are ready to face new knowledge that entails a surgical operation of the entire Bursaries Committee.

    • The other way is to have the form on the website of the Bursaries Committee or whatever it is called and let the students download it on their own. In any case what is the basis for that increase? The problem in Zambia is that prices are exaggerated. No wonder some people refer to Zambia as a failed economy.
