We dont care what rest of world thinks of us – Zambian govt

EDGAR-LUNGUGovernment says it does not care what the outside world thinks about Zambia’s image as long as it is doing the right thing.

Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu has told QFM News in an interview that people saying the PF government is denting the country’s image to the outside world do not understand facts.

Lungu is usually the acting president when incumbent Michael Sata travels out of the country so his statement is government policy.

Mr Lungu says the impression of the outside world concerning Zambia is of less concern to the government as long as it ensures there is accountability in the country’s governance.

He explained that the only way that those in government can be accountable is by learning from the mistakes of their predecessors, and not to impress the outside world by doing the wrong things.

Mr Lungu added that government is not bothered by the perception of outsiders as long as it has the support of the Zambian people.

He said governance is a balancing act which calls for balancing of the interests of the citizens and a larger majority of the people as opposed to the interest of an individual.

Mr.Lungu said those crying out that government is denting the country’s image to the outside world through its actions should appreciate it is trying to balance the interest of the majority

  5. If Lungu’s statement is policy, close all Embassies and High Commissions in Zambia and abroad. Such thinking is warped and can only come from insane persons. Even the donations of 3 million litres of petrol and 150,000 metric tons of maize are a concern to right thinking people in the world. If you can do such things why should you ask for help from Britain even if Guy Scott comes from there where he buried his mother in 30 minutes?

Most of the time it all to do with your incompetence as a ruling class other then not caring. Be factual even when you are from Bufi govt.

  24. If we are doing the right thing, the world will view us in very good light, and we will not have to worry. But this statement from the Minister suggests that we are doing the wrong things and the world views us in the negative light. But, surely, you cannot say you do not care about how the world views this country! That statement coming from a government minister is not serious, to say the least.

    • Iwe when did you ever see America come to ask for aid from Zambia? They spell out the rules and will never force you to go with a bowl to beg, but the moment you do, they will give you their prescription because the money is theirs. Iwe Lungu uzisunge, and in what capacity are saying this coz I thot your boss is back, and he should be the one making these pronouncements. I do how ever sympathize with you coz instead of your boss dishing out this statement, he found himself a lighter assignment of making a phone call to LAZ offices to blast off some one there, and since this statement needed to come into the public domain you had no choice but to dish it out yourself.

It doesn’t make sense that people who supplied in 2013 have already been paid just because they are PF leaving out those who supplied much much earlier. With the removal of subsidies we can only hope that part of that money saved will go towards clearing food suppliers. Our patient has really run out!

Do you know that Zimbabwe is limping in its economy because of its poor policies which were criticized by the international community? We know that you don’t have Zambians at heart, you are very selfish and only in Gvtmt to enrich yourselves. Sit up and work for the people.
